Most people thought I was mad when I agreed to play the Holidays In The Sun punk festival in Blackpool, 1996. I was going to be the only solo artist to appear at the event, just me alone on stage with my acoustic guitar in the middle of three days of punk bands. There was a moment just as I was about to play when I wondered if I was mad too. For the past few years I'd been developing my solo show in small clubs and rooms in the backs of pubs, and had no idea how it would go down in front of a large audience. I'd been tempted to play the festival partly because as a rollercoaster fan I knew I'd get the opportunity to nip down to Blackpool Pleasure Beach and ride the Big One, the biggest rollercoaster in EuropeŠnow here I was about to get up in front of hundreds of punk fans with the same feeling in the pit of my stomach. But as soon as I stepped on stage I could feel the crowd with me, and the gig turned out to be a memorable ride. You get to see the whole thing on this film.

I enjoyed myself so much at Holidays In The Sun that now I come back and play it almost every year.
