--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this video tutorial we will study and understand Excess-3 code which is another binary non weighted code also known as XS-3 code.
We will also perform decimal to excess 3 code conversion and xs3 to decimal conversion.
Excess-3 Code-
Excess-3, also called XS3, is a non-weighted code used to express decimal numbers. It is another important binary code.
Developed by George Stibitz in 1937.
The Excess-3 code for a given decimal number is determined by adding '3' to each decimal digit in the given number and then replacing each digit of the newly found decimal number by its four bit binary equivalent.
Applications of XS-3 code-
Applications
Excess-3 was used on some older computers as well as in cash registers and hand-held portable electronic calculators of the 1970s, among other uses.
It is particularly significant for arithmetic operations as it overcomes the shortcomings encountered while using the 8421 BCD code to add two decimal digits whose sum exceeds 9.
