it's nostalgia now. In this video you will see how audio was read in old movies.
There is a light source, a lamp or a laser, and a photocell.
The light is reflected as a thin line through the sound path on the edge of the film and onto the photocell behind it.
Then we turn into electrical signals and hear them as sound from the speaker.
