The thought of stepping your sim racing game up to direct drive can be daunting. With so many options, at such expensive prices, it's overwhelming trying to pick an option. Well, fear not, because today I'm going to be showing you the 2023 CAMMUS DDWB.

It is the best bang for your buck, entry level direct drive wheel on the market. Not only does it undercut most direct drive products worth talking about by quite some margin, but it also provides a premium experience. The unit feels like a proper bit of hardware. It’s big, solid and heavy. The force feedback is silky smooth. There are more buttons than you could ever need – AND the wheel feels like something you’d get in an actual car. But most importantly, it just WORKS.
I’ve tried products from a few of the leading sim racing peripheral manufacturers, and honestly, every single one of them has given me a migraine. I’ve been using the CAMMUS for 9 months now, and it has shattered my expectations. Being a relatively unknown name in the sim racing arena, Cammus have managed to not only deliver a cheap yet premium product, but one that also works seamlessly. I’ve never had to sit for hours trying to troubleshoot the Cammus, and the same can’t be said for my Fanatec. The Cammus clocks in at 15nm of torque, which is nothing to squawk about. In my opinion, this is more than enough if you want a realistic experience. Any less, and you lose a lot of detail, and more and you risk snapping your arms. I’m certainly stronger than the average male, and you can see just how much I’m having to fight the wheel, when it’s cranked to 100%. But seriously, real life cars never deliver more than 15nm through their wheels. So any more is just unrealistic, and an intense workout.. Not only this, but 15nm is the highest rated for cheaper cockpits, such as the next level racing GT-Lite of playseat challenge. So it’s perfect for those wanting a premium experience, with a budget setup. However, I do have to mention that the Cammus doesn’t use the standard bolt pattern for mounting. So, you may have to drill a hole or two, but this is an easy 5 minute job if you have a decent drill. All you have to do, is get a sheet of paper, tape it to the wheelbase, and shade over it. Then, tape that to your cockpit, and drill the marked holes. Simple. Now I haven’t used many direct drive wheels to compare it to, so Ill let my mate Laurence Dusowsa tell you what he thinks about it. My two wheels prior were the cog driven g920, and belt driven Fanatec CSW. And I have to admit, the CAMMUS is in a league of it’s own. There’s no faults with the feedback. No coggy vibrations. No belt slippage. It’s what I imagined force feedback to feel like before I even owned a wheel. It feels almost indentical to driving a real car.
Not only this, but I do believe that this direct drive feedback has made me slightly faster. I can feel everything the tyres are doing. It’s like I’ve grown a sixth sense for when I’m about to lose grip. I can feel each bump on kerbing. I can feel the paint on the tarmac. Direct drive is truly worthy of the hype. It makes everything else feel like a arcade game found in a seedy restraunt. Similarly,
The wheel is probably the best I’ve used, because it doesn’t feel like a toy. The pleather has a nice grip to it, the stitching is solid, and it has a good bit of.. girth. Paired with ergonomic indentations for your fingers to snug into, this makes using the wheel a comfortable experience. I’ve never experienced cramp, or hand fatigue whilst using this wheel.
And, it even comes with it’s own button box. The buttons aren’t the best out there, and they’re not going to send you into ecstasy with a tactile click, but they do the job. One gripe is that they are a bit too far out of reach, and impossible to press without taking your hand off the wheel somewhat, but again, they do the job just fine.
There’s also magnetic flappy paddles on the rear of the box. Magnetic paddles are a vast improvement over the standard ones you find on the likes of the g920 or Fanatec wheels.
