A sound effect is a ready-made sound to use in, for example, video content: podcasts, training videos, tv shows, etc. Typically, sound effects help you create a higher quality and more professional video. Sound effects are usually easy to edit and customize using any sound editor. There are many websites that offer sound effects with different licensing agreements. You can purchase sound effects for commercial use or you can opt for royalty-free sound effects.

Step # 1 - Option 1: go to Flashkit
Open your Browser and go to: “flashkit.com/soundfx”. Flash Kit is one of the largest Flash resource sites that offers raw materials containing thousands of open source movies, online tutorials, help forums and sound effects.
Step # 2 - Choose a category
In this section you will find a list of categories for sounds such as “Ambiance”, “Communication”, etc. If you click on one of those categories, you will find a specific group for that category.
You will also find the listed sound effects. Each sound effect has a description along with its length, sample rate, size, class, the date it was added and the rating votes.You can see, as well, if it is “Freeware” and who the author is.
Step # 3 - Listen to the sound effect
You can listen to the sound effect by clicking on the “Play” button.
Step # 4 - Download the sound effect
If you wish to download the effect, click on the name of the file. In the new loaded page click the “Download.Mp3” button. You will be linked to a new tab with a player. Right click on the player and choose “Save video as”. In the new dialog box, choose the location to save the file in and click “Save”.
Once the Mp3 file is downloaded you can play it and use it.
Step # 4 - Option 2: go to Audiomicro
Open your Browser and go to “www.audiomicro.com/soundeffects”, a stock audio library with paid and royalty-free music and sound effects.
Step # 5 - Choose “Free Sound Effects”
On the top bar you will find different options. Choose “Free Sound Effects”.
You can find any specific sound effect using the search bar or you can navigate the different categories. Keep in mind that some specific sound effects that you may look for could be paid ones.
Step # 5 - Choose a category
Let’s choose a category from the free sound effects. For example “Free Animal Sound Effects”. You will find a list of free sounds. Each sound effect is described by type, length, “Genres” and “Description”.
You can also filter your search by “Most downloads” and “High rated”, among others. And you can filter it by “Length”, “Loops”, “Subcategory” and “Artist”.
Step # 6 - Listen to the sound effect
You can listen to the sound effect by clicking the “Play” button.
Step # 7 - Register and download the sound effect
To download a sound effect you must be registered on the site. To do so, go to the top of the webpage and click on the “Create account” option. You can create an account by completing a form or by using a social media account. In this case, we’ll use completing the form. Once you’re finished click on “Sign up”. Then click on the name of the sound effect you wish to download and, in the new web page, click the orange “Download now” button. The file will download in a wav format.
Once the wav file is downloaded you can play and use it.
Step # 8 - Option 3: go to Freesoundeffects.com
Open your Browser and go to “www.freesoundeffects.com”, a stock audio library with paid and royalty-free music and sound effects.
Scroll down to access the “Free Sound Effects” section in the left hand menu.
Step # 9 - Choose a category
You will find many categories to choose from. Pick one and the sound effects will be listed for your chosen category. You can sort your search by: most popular and most recent, among others.
You can also find any specific sound effect using the search bar or you can navigate the different categories. Have in mind that some sound effects could be paid ones.
Step # 10 - Listen and Download the sound effect
If you want to listen to the sound effect, click the “Play” button. You can download the file by clicking “Download Mp3” or “Download wav”.
Use the ones that you like the most.
