In 2004, scientists observed the start of a decades-long trend in the eastern Arctic Ocean. A gradient of salty to fresh water known as the Arctic halocline blocks the heat carried by the Atlantic water layer from reaching the sea ice. Is the Arctic halocline weakening? Are the Arctic waters heating up? Join us as we search for answers.
The Arctic Halocline 360° VR Experience was filmed on location in the Arctic Ocean during the 2021 Nansen and Amundsen Basins Observational System (NABOS) cruise and coordinated by the International Arctic Research Center (IARC) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
