So, as it turns out, cadmium oil paints aren't toxic to humans, but they ARE toxic to the watershed. In this video, I review the research and talk about the toxicity of cadmium oil paints, and the dangers they pose to people and the environment.

Basically, here's the TL;DR: Cadmium pigments, like all pigments used in oil paints, are ground and processed in such a way that they can't be easily absorbed into the human body, BUT -- washing your brushes using tap water can introduce small amounts of these heavy metals into the watershed, which contributes to overall environmental pollution.

My review of Utrecht's cadmium free oil paints shows that they're nearly identical to their cadmium counterparts, and so switching is something easily done, without any hassle, that reduces your overall environmental impact!
