In 2011, Chita played Margaret Bell in a reading of the new musical The Distant Bells at Roundabout Theatre Company.
With music and lyrics by Michael Patrick Walker, and book by Howard EmanuelThe Distant Bells tells the story of three generations of the Bell family - Margaret, the matriarch, her daughters Irene and Evelyn, and Irene's 20-year old son, Joseph. When Margaret's long estranged ex-husband, Frank, dies suddenly, his presence is once again felt in the family. Old wounds are re-opened and new secrets are revealed as the family comes together to lay Frank to rest in every possible way.
