1. immediately after setup, go to settings, about phone, and check for the latest software updates. This is very important because these software updates fix some of the bugs and defects that other users complained about.
2. Permissions. Some permissions are high risk. Any app that has access to your microphone and camera can record when you have no idea you are being recorded. Your location is also something that you may want to keep secret at all times. Check for apps which have access to various permissions on your device. Should those apps be having such permissions? Permissions include, access to you contacts, gallery, files, camera, microphone, etc. In a world where privacy is of major concern, you need to ensure that permission is granted to apps that need them. If you find any app you do not use or know about having access to your critical permissions, disable those permissions and save your life.
3. Turn off automatic system app updates. Xiaomi devices tend to be loaded with a lot of apps right from the factory. Many of these apps you will never use. Some you can uninstall, some you cannot. But we will talk about that more in a bit. For apps you cannot uninstall, make sure to go to settings and turn off automatic app updates for system apps. This will save you data, and storage space. Plus, because you do not use those apps, you cannot really tell what they may be up to in the background.
4. Lock screen modes. There are options to improve the user experience when you pick up your phone. I prefer to turn on raise to unlock, because it gives me iPhone vibes. Another option I like is to double tap the screen to turn it on. This is also a feature common in iPhones. Then the feature I like to turn off, is wake lock screen when you get notifications, since that can turn to be a major source of distraction, and reduce productivity.
5. Another really cool feature is that you can have your name or number displayed on the lockscreen, so if your phone ever gets lost, you can have hope that the person would call you.
6. Get to know your Number of notifications. Once you turn on this feature, your notification badges will show number of unread notifications for supported apps like Facebook, instagram and more.
7. Uninstall bloatware. The Poco X3 and many other phones come preinstalled with a lot of apps and games you do not need. Just go through the list and uninstall all the ones you can. This saves you storage space on your device, as well as prevents unneccessary updates of apps you do not need.
