Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio Visits Mon District After Nagaland Killings
The Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio visited the Mon district of the state where 15 people have been killed including one soldier in an army operation that went awry. On December 4th, army forces opened fire on a van with 6 coal mine workers after which villagers protested, and in the firing that ensued 7 more civilians and one jawan were killed. This sparked massive protests in which three more civilians lost their lives. The deaths have become a massive political flashpoint across the country with opposition parties slamming the government and the issue being raised in both houses of the parliament.
