Study Materials I used to Pass CompTIA Security+ SY0-601 on the First Try | September 2022

Just sharing study resources and tips that helped me out based on my experience. Hopefully, they will help you out too! I don’t have much background in Cybersecurity, just basic computer repair and networking. I was able to pass Security+ on my first try because of all these resources.

1st
CompTIA Security+ SY0-601 Exam Cram - Paper Book
by Martin Weiss (Author). It was a $40 book. Since I was working a lot, I figure it was worth it to buy Exam Cram.

Pros
Easy to review little by little. There are chapter tests in the book. Exam Cram sheet was really useful. It came with two practice tests to use on a computer and you can practice the chapter questions on the computer as well. What I like is that there’s an offline program for the practice test (desktop application) you can install.

You can select the number of questions and save the settings. I keep questions random and started doing 10 questions a day. Then I started to change it to one’s that I missed.

Cons with this book was that there are No PBQ (Performance Based Question) in the practice test.

Examcompass - Free Resource but with lots of Ads
Good for testing your knowledge. Problem is that there is no explanation for answers so it will be hard to learn.

Local Libraries

Started off by borrowing Security+ books from my local library (California, USA). It was good but they were in demand and had to return them every three weeks. In California, most public libraries will allow any California Resident to get a library Card.

They had a lot of ebooks for Security+ reviews available as well, but I wanted a paper book because of my learning style.

Problem with my learning style is that If keep doing this repeatedly, I start to memorize answers. I got certblaster. If you have the budget. Look for coupon like 10% off.
$100 Certblaster - Drills and Exam prep were great. Helped prepare me for the test and Performance based questions.

COMPTIA CERTMASTER - I got the bundle with the voucher so I had this resource already. A confusing resource for me. I struggled learning with this resource. Although the practice for PBQ was interesting and difficult.
