AUG 11 Beyond the Walls Online Church 2024
“Beware of false prophets and messiahs” who perform great signs and omens to lead you astray. How can we apply the teaching from Matthew 24:23-28 to our lives and ministry today? Who should we be cautious of: self-help gurus, influencers, celebrities promoting alternative facts, corporations and politicians aiming to legitimize misinformation? What are examples of misleading signs that can lead us astray today?
In the early 2nd century AD, an important Christian thinker named Irenaeus served as the second bishop of Lyon, at a time when Christians had an extraordinary diversity of thought with contradictory understandings of the gospel and Christ’s mission. As a great opponent of the Gnostics, Irenaeus helped shape what became orthodox and catholic Christian thought.
This Sunday, join us as we walk the streets of Lyon, France, exploring Christianity’s ancient diversity and considering how these competing ideas have relevance for our lives today.
