This is the first video in a series of lessons looking at the basics of bass fills. We're going to be looking at a simple and common four bar chord progression and working through several bass fills on the final bar of A7.
Dominant 7 chords are great for playing bass fills because of the number of different options we have for building the tension. We can use basic chord tones, scales, chromatic notes and then a whole host of different substitutions like the melodic minor scale, the whole tone scale and numerous other chords. But first, let's just try limiting ourselves to the simple chord tones.
In this lesson we're going to work through 4 different bass fills. We'll be looking at rhythmic tensions and syncopation as well as simple chord ideas and triplet figures.
