Recorded in LP mode (That's 4 hour speed on a 2 hour tape for all you folks who never got to use a VCR).
So this hearing occurred on Thursday, September 19, 1985. I left work that morning and headed home to fire up the VCR to record Zappa’s appearance. Somewhere around 10am-11am. They must have stated on 818-pumpkin the (estimated) time that Frank would be testifying, otherwise I would have just set the timer.
So I’m waiting for Tipper and Susan Baker to finish their talking points. Sen. Danforth thanks them for their testimony and say’s the next witness is Frank Zappa. I hit record on my 2-head, wired remote Panasonic. Sweet! Alright Frank! Let’s hear you put them in their place!
As Frank sits down, a voice over on CSPAN annonces that they are switching to other CSPAN programming and that the hearing will re-air that Sunday night. WHAT! Fuck! So pissed off! So had to wait until Sunday night ☹ Set timer at 4 hr speed just to be sure I don’t miss anything.
Fast forward to 2007. Drew51, a trading partner from the 1990’s and Zappateers, and I decide to combine our tapes and post the hearings on Zappateers.
Drew sends me his masters recorded at 2 hour speed. I transfer them, and use my 4 hour speed master for fills. I send the raw transfers to Unicrayon, who authors, brands, and puts a package together of 4 discs on Zappateers.com

Most likely most of what you see on YouTube is from these discs, or VHS transfers sent to other traders from Drew or myself.
Sadly, Drew51 dropped out of sight years ago. I don’t have the original transfers of his tapes, as hard drive space was at a premium years ago. So you get the next best thing, my tape at 4 hour speed. Color correction has been applied to the skin tones, as the saturation levels in LP mode looked unappealing.
