Phrasal verbs are very popular, mostly in informal, spoken English. They’re more natural for fluent speakers.
So, what is a phrasal verb?
Phrasal verbs are verbs that have two parts: a main verb + an adverb particle or a preposition.
People often think phrasal verbs are confusing, I’ll show you why.
Carry means to hold something or someone and move it from one place to another.
For example: when you carry a bag.
When we join carry with on, it creates a completely different meaning.
So now, carry on means continue.
For example: “please carry on talking.”
A phrasal verb is the same as other verbs, so we can use it in different tenses – such as: “I asked him to stop talking, but he carried on.”
