Errors cause a lot of problems in Excel, particularly when they mess-up formatting or, even worse, cause other formulas that rely on the original formula to error-out - this problem can cause a lot of confusion with linked formulas or break entire spreadsheets.
This tutorial covers methods that allow you to make formulas that gracefully fail and alert the user to an issue - this prevents the appearance of the things like: #N/A, #VALUE!, #NUM!, etc.
You will learn how to solve this issue for older versions of Excel, which requires a little more work, but is not too difficult, and for newer versions of Excel.
