VIDEO DESCRIPTION - This is a time-lapsed version on how to draw and paint this surreal still life waterscape image of "ROGUE WAVE" with acrylic paint. You can watch the full-length version here:    • Learn How to Paint ROGUE WAVE with Ac...

You'll learn simple drawing and painting techniques that will help you to create this wooden picture frame hanging on a wall with a large ocean wave splashing out of it in this trompe l'oeil style painting. Trompe-l'œil is an art technique that uses realistic imagery to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects exist in three dimensions in order to trick the eye into perceiving a painted detail as a 3d object. This lively image is a whimsical representation of an energetic summer ocean wave escaping from the landscape painting hanging on the wall, perhaps a symbol of freedom or living outside the normal boundaries of life. Surrounded by a rustic weathered wooden picture frame, the bright blue sky will pull the viewers eyes into the image and the tropical colors in the wave will make you want to dive right into the deep ocean. You'll learn how to create dimension in the shape of the frame with a simple layering technique to create contour highlights and shadows that will define the small details. You'll also learn how to create dramatic depth in the background and the inside of the wave with an easy blended gradient. When painting the flowing water of the wave you'll learn to use carefree impressionistic brushstrokes to create direction and texture, and the use of progressive colors to develop high contrast in the color variations providing a full range of tonal values. Use your imagination and customize this to resemble a different style frame, perhaps it's more opulent with gilded scrolled details making it more ornate, vintage or antique, or maybe you have the frame looking like a window! You could even put a boat, surfer, or a large fish in the water as if falls out of the frame. The point is to just have fun with it! With the energetic surreal narrative storybook fantasy that this painting represents, you'll be able to paint this image that will be a realistic, unique, and clever composition, making for a beautiful painting to decorate your home all year round with. You'll have fun painting it and you'll learn some valuable lessons along the way that you can utilize in future work. Let the turbulence of the water symbolize an emotional state of mind, be it relaxing, calm, or full of energy, and let it escape out and fill the room with its powerful thought-provoking imagination. Using only 3 brushes and 7 colors we'll create this captivating conversational masterpiece that will motivate people to explore their inner Salvador Dali. So, let's get painting and let's get sipping!
