Adidas Cancels Bella Hadid #bellahadid #israel
Adidas has pulled images of the model Bella Hadid from adverts promoting a sports shoe first launched to coincide with the 1972 Munich Olympic Games.
The German-based sportswear company said it was “revising” its campaign after criticism from Israel over Hadid’s involvement.
The SL72 trainers, described by Adidas as a timeless classic, were promoted by Hadid, an American whose family has its roots in Palestine.
Tadhg Hickey expresses disappointment over Adidas' decision to drop Bella Hadid from their campaign due to pressure from Xio groups. He believes Adidas showed a lack of morals and business acumen by giving in to these demands. He also emphasizes that young people, particularly in the Middle East, are becoming increasingly against Israel and are likely to boycott companies that support it. Hickey makes it clear that being pro-Palestinian does not equate to being a terrorist.
The ad received backlash for including Hadid, who is of Palestinian heritage, from the American Jewish Committee, as well as the State of Israel.
