The speaker shares his personal journey of unlearning a false narrative of Israeli history. Raised in Israel, he was taught to view Israeli Jews as perpetual victims and Arabs as antagonists due to their alleged anti-Semitic attitudes. Serving in the military reinforced these beliefs. However, moving to Australia a decade later and interacting with Palestinians and Arabs as equals, he began questioning the narrative he was raised on. After renouncing his Israeli citizenship in 2001, it took him additional time to fully comprehend the role settler colonialism plays in shaping the Israeli context.
