Next to the Aula Magna is the Sala dei Quaranta, with as many modern portraits of famous University students who lived in Padua between the thirteenth and nineteenth centuries. In the hall is the Chair of Galileo (teacher's desk), a chair from which, according to tradition, the scientist held lectures.
