Here’s why many of Google’s top AI engineers and experts have left and started their own companies.

For context: while OpenAI has garnered much attention lately for its chatbot, much of its foundational AI technology came from Google. This is because Google made much of its AI research available to the public, in which OpenAI could build upon its innovation and launch GPT.

So, why are folks leaving Google?

Well, mainly because they’re excited about the potential of generative AI and don’t want to be hindered by corporate politics. Many have found their own AI startups, believing that generative AI will alter how humans and computers interact.

Training large language models is very expensive. So, these founders were able to attract $2.3 billion in funding just this year alone from top investors. Companies like Anthropic, Adept, Inflection, and Character AI were started by Ex-Googlers.
