Here is one of the last performances given by Benjamin Britten with his lifelong partner Peter Pears. From Snape Maltings, Aldeburgh, September 22, 1972. This magical musical duo had been performing together for 35 years. There union would continue until Britten's death in 1976, but Pears would have to look to others for piano accompaniment. Murray Perahia would head that list. It is an interesting study to listen to repertoire with Pears/Britten and compare it with his later performances with Perahia. Many examples with Perahia appear on my playlist linked below.

"The Land of Lost Content" with music by John Ireland and poems from A.E. Houseman's "A Shropshire Lad":
1. "The Lent Lily"
2. "Ladslove"
3. "Goal and wicket"
4. "The vain desire"
5. "The Encounter"
6. "Epilogue"
