The Vibrant Calle Ocho, center of Cuban life and culture in the Little Havana district, emerged mainly after Fidel Castro took over Cuba in 1959. Many Cubans migrated to Miami and first settled in the area. Calle Ocho is now famous for authentic Cuban food, traditional Cuban cigars, ventanitas, festivals, and live music. Although English is the official language, more than 60% of people living in Miami also speak Spanish due to extensive immigration from Spanish-speaking areas.
