Item title reads - A guid New Year to one and a'. With picturesque and dramatic ceremonies - as old as the Regiment itself - the famous 1st Battalion The Seaforth Highlanders welcome the New Year. Dover, Kent.



Intertitle - 'just before midnight - "the old year" - the oldest soldier in the Battalion - is played out of Barracks to strains of "Happy we've been a'together."' L/S as the men of the Battalion march along carrying torches on long sticks, pipers and drummers play, and the oldest soldier, dressed as old father time, is carried aloft. M/S as he sits there. Various shots as he is taken out of the gates, he waves as he goes.



Intertitle - 'on the stroke of midnight - "the new year" - the youngest drummer boy is played in "wi' a waggin' tail."' M/S as the soldier strikes the gong for midnight. M/S as the boy stands at the door and knocks. It is opened and he walks along followed by the pipers and drummers again.



Intertitle - 'the O.C. and officers serve "Atholl Brose" to everyone in the Battalion.' M/S as they line up to get a drink. M/S as band plays and a man conducts, the men dance around.



Intertitle - '"should auld acquaintance be forgot..."' M/S as they drink some more. M/S as they sing "Auld Lang Syne" very enthusiastically while a piper plays.
