New Order - Live, Plato’s Ballroom (Mr. Pickwicks), Liverpool, England, 14th January 1981
ORIGINAL NOTES:
"This recording was found on the reverse side of the tape that yielded the Joy Division Guildford recording a few years ago. The tape came into my hands and I’ll be doing a fresh transfer of the Joy Division recording shortly. In the meantime, curiosity led me to play the ‘B’ side - which turned out to be this little beauty: what I’m taking to be a second and uncirculated source recording of one of New Orders early gigs. This is far better than the nth generation copy I had of the common source. This was certainly new to my ears and I think you will find the same.
Slight glitch right at the start of Procession. i can’t work out if this was something that actually happened at the gig (the first few notes on my other recording are a bit odd too - but in a different way) or whether it has been introduced in the copying. Sounds like it could simply be that the tape machine had a level limiter to prevent over-recording and that kicked-in once the song started with a punch. I’ve also included the other Procession start for comparison."
