Black Arowana are some awesome aquarium predator fish to keep. The black species is a little less common but still an awesome choice. A lot of people feed them the hikari Predator sticks. It’s a good food for Arowanas.
Additional Random Fish Tank Babble:
So some ladies in this group informed me my betta has popeye and possibly fin rot. I was going to get the items the suggested but I had some unexpected expenses arise with my car and transmission (at that) so I had to go a cheaper route. I didn't want to neglect him from having some type of help to get better so we went with API products. I ordered two of the betafix incase 2 rounds are needed .
Please I know some may not like certain products or approve of their quality but I'm trying to help him with the funds I had available to spend on my fish especially since I'm a stay at home mom living on hubs expense during the COVID.
I did a whole water change Sunday, my nitrates are high so added some stuff(I'd have to go look at product to remember the name) anyways added that Monday, well half does as recommended adding the other half tomorrow. Will start bettafix today and do partial water change in 7 days.
it’s not that we don’t like the product it’s that that product has been found not only to be ineffective but also harmful to labyrinth organ fish like the betas.
I've fixed two with popeye, one I bought because she had popeye and all I did was add prime and do more water changes.
So I'd probably not use the beta fix, anything with "fix" is usually advised by all to avoid. I'd dose with stress coat and maybe do like, every 2 day water changes of a 1/4 or so.
bettafix the main ingredient is a very little extract from the malaleuca plant so its not really effective ... So Honestly I use real essential oil 100% pure of tea tree more effective diluted in a solubilize mix with aquarium water . And it saved my bettas from really bad bacteria infection and defected their open wound very well. And I use it for my gouramis too and never had issues compare to melafix . Just careful with the dosage ;) essential oil are so concentrate amd powerful that its 1 or 2 drop max.
I wouldn’t wait 7 days to start water changes I know bettafjx says otherwise but to treat popeye your betta needs very clean water conditions more that the meds. A natural method would be to crush some fresh garlic and put it in his tank, it has antifungal and antibacterial properties.
Most of the time pop eye is caused by poor water conditions - maybe you had a spike of ammonia if you hadn’t cycled your tank already? IAL has a lot of healthy benefits too if you can get then, but I would focus more on keeping your water parameters balanced! Good luck.
But the 2 most recommended products are stabilty and prime by seachem. those are the only 2 products i use when doing water changes.. i don't usually have a problem with high ph tho my ph stays the same there are more natural remedies to lowering your ph adding a lot of chemicals can have a negative effect on your water quality! i would recommend returning the betta fix and instead getting some indian almond leaves off amazon! if you have enough money left over kanaplex is also a really good medicine that will help him! along with frequent water changes.
I'd just use stress coat and do 50% water changes every day. Keeping the water clean right now is the best to keep infection away. It's a better option than betta fix until you can afford better. Ial does wonders also and is fairly cheap.
i had a divider in my 10 gal one of my bettas jumper it and attack his tank mate. He was messed up pretty badly. I put him in a hospital tank i used melafix and parafix i did 25% water change every day with warm water. After a month i notice he had no more wounds and fins growing He looks great and it happen 2 yrs ago. I also used antibotic for a fish pine coning and had no luck i think it depends on the age also. Best of luck.
