A Rainy But Unforgettable Spring Commencement at The Ohio State University | Class of 2025

Rain couldn’t dampen the celebration as thousands gathered in Ohio Stadium for The Ohio State University’s 2025 Spring Commencement. With umbrellas up and ponchos on, graduates and their families braved the weather to hear inspiring words from keynote speaker Charles F. Bolden Jr.—retired Major General in the U.S. Marine Corps and former NASA Administrator.

Bolden encouraged students to embrace service, build bridges, and stay open to new perspectives. “Serving a purpose greater than yourself is at the core of the Buckeye philosophy,” he reminded the crowd.

Ohio State President Walter “Ted” Carter Jr. echoed that message, urging the Class of 2025 to answer the call to serve—whether through careers in public service, military, or simply acts of kindness.

The ceremony also honored Atul Gawande with an honorary Doctor of Science and recognized major university supporters with Distinguished Service Awards.

This year’s class represented 91 countries and included over 12,000 graduates—marking another proud chapter in Ohio State’s global legacy.
