Klunking Sound While Turning the Steering Wheel Could Be the Steering Shaft | The Fixit Shed
My Fiesta was making a klunking sound while turning the steering wheel. The previous owner said it needed lower control arms, but I checked them out and they seemed ok. Next, I thought I would check out the steering shaft. It appears that was the culprit, and just manipulating it spread the grease around enough to get it to stop klunking. You could clean it and reapply some grease, but this was good enough for me.
