http://tutorials.jenkov.com/svg/svg-c... The SVG coordinate system is different from a normal, cartesian coordinate sysem which you know from your math classes. The SVG coordinate system (like most computer graphics coordinate systems) has it Y-axis reversed, so that when Y-coordinates increases, points move down on the screen instead of up as in a cartesian coordinate system.
