Designed from self-isolation in the English countryside, Resort 21 became an introspective journey through the David Koma DNA, with an added inspiration taken from the surrounding nature.
Being a city dweller for most of his life, this was the first time David truly connected with the country living and experienced spring surrounded by the flora of the British Isles. Vivid pinks of blooming flowers and sun-lit greens of fresh spring grass were added to the Koma signature palette of black,
white and sand shades, ever present in designer’s collections. Iridescent crystals, adorning transparent mesh dresses and quintessential Koma silhouettes, paid tribute to the morning dew glistening on the flowers, seen on David’s regular walks.
The designs continued to explore London’s irreverent attitude touched upon in AW20 collection. Modern take on corsetry, tailoring and leather elements paid homage to the city throughout the years. Athletic cuts and sportswear undertones adding high energy, were juxtaposed with classic eveningwear styles.
With time to enjoy his collection of art books, David discovered work by South Korean photographer Bae Bien-u, whose striking black and white imagery of organic forms inspired the natural curves and cut outs seen across the collection.
The shoot location was chosen early in the design process and became
a part of overall inspiration.

About David Koma:
David Koma is a London-based fashion designer who has become synonymous with the ultra body contouring silhouette, creating sculptural statement dresses inspired by the feminine form. Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, David Koma discovered his penchant for dress design at the young age of eight. David studied Fine Art in St Petersburg, showing his first collection at the age of 15. In 2003 David moved to London to take up a place at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, graduating with a distinction in MA Fashion in April 2009 under the mentorship of the late Professor Louise Wilson, OBE.
Straight after graduation David Koma launched his eponymous ready-to-wear brand and has been a participant of London Fashion Week ever since.
