Her TV shows air in the Hawaiian Islands for over 12 years, Whats the back story to producer Leah Tunkara ? She was the first African American model to be on the cover of Waikiki Beach Press in 1980, Hawaii's Award Winning visitor magazine at the time. Posing as a Island beauity for THE INTERNATIONAL MARKET PLACE she then first apeared on television in Maguum P.I TV series. from there she moved to Hollywood. Star Trek:-The Next Generation, Cheers, (was a extra on feature film) 'Ghost" starring Woopie Goldberg. That was what was on the Parmount Lot sound stages. (Paramount Pictures) just to name eh few of the TV shows Leah got work on..
The odyssey for Leah began at age 14 where she first won awards in Black & White photography. She wanted to be a filmmaker like Woody Allen, but her 'good looks' got her work in Commercials. Never letting go of her dream of becoming a filmmaker she learn't whatever she could on big motion sets and locations, asking the crew questions. One time she even sat next to Director Clint Eastwood for lunch, talk to Mr.Eastwood on the set of 'BIRD' The Charlie Parker Story. On 1988 European Tour, working for Nina Simone in Paris France. Leah Tunkara got to watch the film 'BIRD' with Ms.Simone ! Leah says "it was a blast seeing the film with her and we were looking for the part that I was in, later on that day she told me I would live the best of two worlds, I ask " what does that mean ?" she said "if you don't know honey I can't tell you." It took me 20 years to finger out what she mean't.
Leah's first technical credit was for editing on a 16mm student film @ American Film Institute. Now in 2012 some of the works being produced could be called ESCAPE FROM MEDIOCRITY with reggae music, "NO HURT" is key. RELAX & BREATH.
