• Revitalized Beatles: New Remix Collec...
• 1960's British Music Invasion TRUE St...
On the evening of Monday, June 1st, 1964, in Studio Two of EMI Studios, The Beatles laid down some truly remarkable acoustic guitar tracks while recording 'I'll Be Back'. With this in mind, I set out to enhance those guitars—bringing out the crispness of each pick strum across the strings, played so masterfully that day. The guitars retain their original positions in the mix—left, center, and right—a thoughtful placement that likely influenced bands like Badfinger, who would record within those same studio walls just a few years later.
For this remix, I made only a few key adjustments. The vocals are now separated for added depth, with Paul’s voice positioned to the left of John’s rather than stacked on top, as in the original stereo mix. The drums and bass have been centered to create a more balanced, natural sound, since the guitars stretch fully across the soundstage.
'I'll Be Back' has been one of my most requested remixes—and also one of the most challenging. It took countless attempts to achieve a mix that truly satisfied me. Through extensive trial and error and hundreds of playbacks, I never grew tired of hearing this fascinating composition, one in which The Beatles broke all the rules. For an insightful take on the song’s structure, I highly recommend checking out Rick Beato’s recent livestream.
Thank you for listening—I appreciate it greatly!
