Aquarium Oscar Fish aren’t for everyone. Aquarium tank setup is fairly expensive but not too bad. If your thinking about getting an Oscar Fish watch this. Also, check out this food seller I talked about.
More talk on fish tanks:
So I know the bloated Gourami things been an issue, due to many things but i noticed one thing my Gourami did out of character before the Dropsy was even there. So... it was one night late and I play video games beside my fishtank (screen is out of sight for fish) and i was gaming when i suddenly heard loud bangs coming from inside my tank, it was my adult golden Gourami violently slamming its head and body into the walls of the tank.
Didn’t harm any other fish. But it harmed itself to a point be was swimming sideways, i thought he was going to die right there.. thankfully he didnt but less then a week later maybe 5 days he started to show signs of dropsy. Now its been 2 weeks he isnt eating or pooping (constipation?) But his stomach isnt perfectly round its got lumps, which makes me worry he has parasites.
So I just wanna know what you think, did my Gouramis' breakdown happen due to a mental issue from inbreeding and caused the bloat, or could that episode have been just as random as him getting the dropsy?
Also what do you guys suggeat i do to my Gourami? I was so sad when he was hurting himself i wanted to grab him and hold him so hed calm down and be okay but i knew that would only freak him out more. So please if you have any Hourami saving answers or even a product you 100% trust send me a link and ill buy some. Im worried he might not make it much longer, he looks like he mifht explode. ( also i know they are territorial but would getting him a gourami friend make him less lonely? Or should he be fine on his own and shouldnt be a factor in this?) Thank you so much if your able to get back to me thatd be great mucb love guys.
How to get nitrite and nitrate levels down? I’ve done countless water changes over the past week, and the numbers aren’t coming down. I’ve tried as much as 50% to 25%. It’s becoming super harmful to my fish- any help would be appreciated.
Edit: My tank has been up and running for about 2.5months-with no problems. (55gal) This started a couple of days ago. The levels are toxic and I have moved my fish into my quarantine tank already.
In terms of percentages you wont remove a whole lot with a small water change. If you had 100ppm nitrate and you only do a 25% water change you will still be left with 75ppm nitrate. I do 75% water changes on all my tanks. Water chemistry is not that black and white when it comes to the levels. Everyone approaches water changes differently, of course. In my experience, smaller, more frequent water changes lead to a more stable tank and are much easier on the fish inhabiting them.
Hey, nothing is black and white, but if OP is looking to get down levels then it makes sense to be changing more water. Fish adapt to the conditions you give them. I've had everything from discus to puffers to Bettas and none seemed bothered by large water changes because I'm consistent and it's normal to them.
I hear what you’re saying. If you’re doing large water changes and the water you’re adding in is similar in parameters to what was already in the tank, there should be no issue. However, I’ve had several people have done huge water changes when their parameters are at dangerous levels and have lost fish. Yes, fish are hardy and some can handle it, but that doesn’t mean it’s necessarily good for them.
What's in there..
Guppies, Neon Tetra, Amber Tetra, Betta, Red Lizard Catfish, Pink Danios, Green Danios, Yellow Danios, Zebra Danios, Norman Lampeye, Galaxy Rasboras, Silver Roach, otocinclus, Amano, Green Jade, Yellow, orange, snowball, blue snowball, Bloody Mary, Sakura,Fire Red, Red Rili, Orange Rili, Carbon Rili, Ghost, yellow golden back, blue Velvet, chocolate, black and orange tiger shrimps, Nerite snails and Ramshorn snails and some worms.
Get. Few 5 gallon buckets. Set your water change water out and let it get to at least room temp. My fish are active when I have a water change. Just make sure it's not freezing or burning hot. Imagine getting into a freezing shower after being in a hot room all day or vice versa. You go into shock. They are more sensitive to temp change than we are.
If you also fidget around a lot, vacuum, wash filters, etc...then they get stressed. As many mentioned, the change to the wrong water parameters will stress them. This hobby is trying my patience! For sure one of the tougher things I've undertaken. I just started around Christmas, I've spent who knows how much money, still making mistakes please tell me there's a light at the end of this learning curve.
