I backed up my channels a while back, and a lot of the videos were downloaded in Google's own WebM VP9 codec. Only needing a few seconds from each clip, reencoding would have taken forever. This is a much better solution, though reencoding is still better. You're giving up playback performance for a quicker editing experience.
