LDS are gas-discharge devices that are able to form ultraviolet radiation due to electric discharge in mercury vapor. Visible light from lamps is obtained only after conversion of ultraviolet radiation. Such modification becomes possible when using compositions containing calcium halophosphate or similar compounds-phosphors.
A common cause of failure of daylight sources is considered to be the loss of their tightness. If at the ends of the bulb you notice an orange glow, while the device itself is not lit, you can be sure - inside the LDS air penetrates. The lamp should be changed.
